The Maldives National University renews agreement with three Hilton resorts

The Maldives National University (MNU) has renewed its agreement with three Hilton-branded resorts in the Maldives, further strengthening its partnership with the resorts.

The agreement covers Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa and Conrad Maldives Rangali Island.

MNU Vice Chancellor Dr Aishath Shehenaz Adam and Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) Dean Zulaikha Reesha Rashad attended the signing ceremony. Waldorf Astoria General Manager TJ Joulak, Hilton Amingiri General Manager Mark Eletr and Conrad Maldives General Manager Nick Flynn also attended, alongside other senior officials from the resorts.

FHTS Lecturer Ismail Shiaru described the collaboration as a highly successful partnership that began two to three years ago. He also highlighted the importance of giving students opportunities to apply what they learn in a practical setting.

FHTS Lecturer Shiaru said practical experience is one of the greatest benefits the partnership offers students at the faculty. It allows them to take the skills they learn at the university into the industry and gain practical experience in a five-star environment.

Speaking at the ceremony, managers from the resorts said they were pleased to support the development of Maldivian talent in the Maldives’ tourism industry and help create opportunities for Maldivian students.

Under the agreement, students studying at MNU’s FHTS will have access to internship opportunities across a range of areas, including front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, kitchen, marketing and back-of-house operations. The university and the resorts also plan to conduct various activities to provide university lecturers with training and experience.

Through the agreement, many MNU students have received training at the three resorts over the past several years, providing them with significant support in entering the workforce. MNU also noted that the resorts recognise the standard of students coming from the university and show strong interest in recruiting them after they complete their studies.
