Gov’t. needs parliament support to deliver development: President

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom said on Wednesday that his government had brought tremendous development to the country in the past 3 years.

He attributed the fast-paced development to the continuous support for the government from Parliament members, and noted the importance of retaining that support to keep the country on the path of development.

The President accused some parties of attempting to take away the government’s majority in Parliament, and labelled such efforts as traitorous acts against the people.

Development projects are carried out for the benefit of every citizen and the people welcome these projects, he said, adding that the government is planning to carry out further projects next year.

The government aims to lower the budget deficit and it is taking necessary steps to pay off the national debt, he added. “To achieve this, the government should be free from internal and external obstacles.”
