Awards committee selects recipients of this year’s national award

The National Awards Committee on Tuesday selected the recipients of this year’s national awards.

The committee selected 4 recipients for the National Award of Honour, 22 recipients for the National Award of Recognition, and 20 recipients for the National Award for Special Achievement.

Two honourees the National Award for Special Achievement will receive the medal for ‘exceptional academic achievement within the Maldives National Qualifications Framework’ with 15 honourees recognised for attaining the top ranking in a ‘higher academic course or training’ while one honouree will be recognised in the category of ‘innovation and creativity in problem solving or outstanding performance in an academic research’. Two honourees will also be recognised for excellence in ‘Government standardised performance of a skill or innovation’, the President’s Office said.

Special awards conferred by the State will also be awarded at the Republic Day function. These include the President’s Medal for committing the Quran to memory, President’s Medal for achieving first place in the world top ten in the 2015 IGCSE and GCE O’level examinations, and President’s Medal for achieving first place in the world top ten in the 2016 A’level examinations.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will present the national awards to the honourees at the official function on Thursday evening, November 10, at Dharubaaruge.

According to the President’s Office the National Awards Committee selected the honourees, primarily based on criteria previously published in the Government Gazette and with the assistance of expert consultations, after thoroughly reviewing the submitted applications.
