The Maldives and Kenya have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishing a framework for regular political consultations between the two countries.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, following a meeting between the two countries' foreign ministers.
Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam signed the MoU on behalf of the Maldivian government, while Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, signed on behalf of Kenya.
The MoU will provide a platform for the two governments to deepen political dialogue, identify new areas of cooperation and further strengthen bilateral ties.
The Maldives and Kenya established diplomatic relations on 23 October 1995 and have maintained friendly relations since then.
The two governments said the agreement reflects their shared commitment to deepening their partnership and working together for the benefit of their peoples.
