DRP joins ruling coalition

Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) on Friday announced its decision to join the ruling coalition led by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

The announcement was made by the leader of DRP – Mohamed Nasheed, at the rally held by PPM.

Addressing the rally, Nasheed said the decision was made in the best interest of the nation, and as it was the only option to secure investor confidence in the country’s economy.

He further said DRP would stand steadfast with President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, and work to re-elect President Yameen for a second term in office.

The DRP leader also spoke in support of President Yameen’s policies, and noted his pledge for youth development and empowerment.

With DRP, the ruling coalition now includes PPM and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) led by Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam.
