The Government of Maldives has strongly condemned recent statements by Israeli ministers advocating the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said proposals to develop plans or mechanisms to remove Palestinians from their land would constitute a grave violation of international law, including international humanitarian law.
Maldives said it rejected any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians, either within or outside the Occupied Palestinian Territory, regardless of the justification given.
The government described Gaza as an integral part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and said Palestinians had an inalienable right to remain on their land and exercise their right to self-determination.
The Maldives also called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take "decisive action" to prevent the forced displacement of Palestinians and ensure accountability for alleged violations of international law.
It urged the international community to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people and reaffirmed its support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
