Majority Leader of Parliament Ahmed Nihan Hussein Manik has said the opposition will not succeed in their efforts to push through a no-confidence against Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed.
The Villimale’ MP said the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP had earlier tried unsuccessfully to pass no-confidence motions against other senior officials, and described the attempt to remove the speaker through a no-confidence motion as a waste of time.
Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) will not lose its outright majority in parliament due to the defection of a few members, he said.
He also said the opposition could not get the no-confidence motion passed even with the backing of the defected MPs.
