PPM, DRP in talks on joining forces for council elections

Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) have begun talks on joining forces for the upcoming local council elections.

PPM held a governing council meeting Monday night to discuss the matter and set up a committee to steer the discussions, which was initiated following a request from DRP.

The council meeting was chaired by the party advisor – President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

PPM spokesperson – Kelaa MP Ali Arif told PSM News that the council meeting saw further discussions on preparations for the council elections set for January.

The council decided to appoint additional members to the party’s elections committee, he said, and appointed members to two vacant positions on the council.
