MWSC to launch mega sewerage project in Malé

Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) announces a mega sewerage project in Malé targeting a population of 300,000.

The project, estimated to cost over MVR75 million, is expected to be completed by late 2018.

The sewerage network currently used in Malé was established in 1988, and targeted a population of 100,000 residents.

MWSC said, since then, the population of Malé has skyrocketed, and the need for a modern and improved sewerage system has increased.

Managing Director of MWSC Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed said the project seeks to manage sewerage for a 50-year period.

He said “the project will see the development of a sea outfall pump station in the Malé Industrial Village, which will serve as one of the main pump stations of the new sewerage network.”

It will replace the pump station located near the Rasfannu Beach.

MWSC said it has now placed orders for the equipment and materials needed for the project, and they are expected to be delivered in January.
