Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has said the government is undertaking efforts to establish a mechanism for the prevention and control of diseases in the country.
Speaking at the launching of the national mosquito eradication campaign in Gan Island of Laamu Atoll, he said that raising public awareness was an integral part of any disease prevention mechanism, and noted the country’s achievements in preventing infectious diseases.
He also highlighted the challenges faced in preventing and controlling non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, adding that the country was seeing a worrisome trend in non-communicable disease mortality.
