Economic Ministry reveals plans to hold more business forums

The Ministry of Economic Development has said it is planning to hold business forums in all parts of the country after considering the success of Thursday’s planned forum in Nafaru Island of Lhaviyani Atoll.

The forum will see discussions on ways to further promote small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at island and atoll level, the ministry said.

It is part of the “Partnering for Development” (P4D) programme, undertaken by the government in collaboration with UNDP.

The programme seeks to establish a platform that would link emerging local Micro and SMEs with already established industry stakeholders and businesses from high income generating sectors, the ministry said, and it is also a venue for discussing developmental challenges faced by the country and to facilitate partnerships between private sector and the government in addressing such challenges.

According to the ministry, government offices and institutions, and business sector stakeholders including resort operators in the atoll and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises will participate in the forum.
