President inaugurates harbour and mosque in Makunudhoo

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Wednesday concluded an official visit to some islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Kanditheemu of Shaviyani Atoll.

On Wednesday morning, President Yameen officially inaugurated the new harbour and mosque developed in Makunudhoo Island of Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

Addressing the people of Makunudhoo afterwards, President Yameen stated that development was the right of every Maldivian and that the current administration is working towards solving key issues in different areas of the country.

He shed light on current and future development projects targeted throughout the country, especially for urban development in the northern region of Maldives.

President Yameen further spoke about empowering women, fisheries, tourism, and the political situation of the country.

At the ceremony, the President was awarded an honorary plaque. On behalf of the island residents, the plaque was presented to the President by Makunudhoo Council President Mohamed Shakir.

Makunudhoo harbour, costed MVR69.3 million, is 790-feet long and 375-feet wide. The harbour was developed by the administration in order to solve the difficulties faced by the residents in docking at the island, whereby easing current travel burdens significantly.

‘Masjidul Thaqwa’ mosque opened Wednesday can accommodate 700 people. The Government spent over MVR5 million on the project.

As part of his visit, President Yameen yesterday inaugurated the harbours of Kurinbi, Hirimaradhoo, and Nellaidhoo of South Thiladhummathi Atoll. He also inaugurated the water and sewerage system in Kanditheemu Island of North Miladhummadulu Atoll.
