President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has officially inaugurated new harbours in Kurinbi, Hirimaradhoo and Nellaidhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
President Yameen is on an official visit to some islands of Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani atolls.
Speaking after inaugurating the harbour of Kurinbi Island, President Yameen said that the inauguration of a harbour has brought much joy to the people, and noted that today all Maldivians were celebrating numerous achievements.
He said that the nation should rejoice in the decision to reject the oppression we encounter every day, and also be delighted that the country was on the road of progressively rebuilding itself.
Speaking further, President Yameen pointed out that on average, there were currently more than two ongoing projects in every inhabited island of the Maldives, and that the citizens wanted to achieve their aspirations, and lead a peaceful and harmonious life.
In his speech, the President underscored the high priority his administration attached to building a peaceful community, while attaining urban development. He stated that the administration’s goal was to shape a wholesome society, by prioritising quality education and minimising crime.
The harbour in Kurinbi, costed at MVR18.7 million, is 300-foot long and 200-foot wide.
Speaking after inaugurating the harbour of Hirimaradhoo Island, the President highlighted that the evolving thought of the society has led to several changes in the Maldives which would further enhance the development of the nation. In this regard, the President shed light on current and future development projects targeted throughout the country. Continuing on, President Yameen also touched on the social issues and developments being faced by the nation.
The new harbour in Hirimaradhoo is 400 feet long and 200 feet wide, with a total value of MVR24.2 million. The harbour was developed in order to solve the difficulties faced by the residents in docking at the island, whereby easing current travel burdens significantly.
President Yameen also inaugurated the newly developed harbour in Nellaidhoo Island.
Addressing the residents of Nellaidhoo, President Yameen highlighted the government’s plans for development, and spoke about the developmental projects carried out across the country. President Yameen further assured the people that the Government will continue to address the needs of the people.
Nellaidhoo harbour is 400-foot long and 200-foot wide, and the government spent MVR 25.5 million on the project.
During his visit, President Yameen is also expected to inaugurate the harbour of Makunudhoo Island of Haa Dhaalu Atoll and the water and sewerage system in Kanditheemu Island of Shaviyani Atoll.
