Applications open for Riveli Award 2026

The Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare has opened applications for the Riveli Award 2026, which recognises people with disabilities and those who support and empower them.

The award is a national initiative under the government’s “Compassionate Society” policy and the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Provision of Financial Assistance Act.

Objectives of the award include:
- Empowering people with disabilities.
- Recognising and encouraging individuals and organisations working in the disability sector.
- Raising awareness of disability rights.
- Promoting equal opportunities and inclusion.
- Supporting the independence and progress of people with disabilities.

The ministry said awards will be presented in six categories this year. They are:
- Persons with disabilities.
- Maldivians with disabilities who have brought recognition to the country.
- Education sector.
- Private organisations.
- Technical and individual support providers.
- Companies that economically empower people with disabilities.

Application forms are available from the ministry’s service counter and on its website, as well as from Family and Children Service Centres in the atolls. The forms can be submitted physically, or via email to [email protected]. The application deadline is Sunday, 30 August, at 1:00 p.m.

The ministry said the award aims to highlight the abilities of people with disabilities, reduce discrimination and improve the quality of services available to them.
