Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) on Friday dismissed Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim and Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau from the party’s governing council.
The members were dismissed by the Disciplinary Committee of the party, after investigating a case submitted against the two members.
Following the decision, Secretary-General, Nilandhoo MP Dr. Abdulla Khaleel informed the two members in writing; the letter detailed that the two members had been dismissed for violating a three-line whip and for publicly discrediting the party and its policies.
They had also publicly questioned a Civil Court order that stripped former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom of power and handed over reins of the party to its Advisor – President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, PPM said.
The two members had backed former President Gayoom following the leadership dispute within the party.
