Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said on Thursday that 95 percent work on the ongoing project to protect the shoreline of the newly reclaimed land in Hulhumale’ has been completed.
Rock boulders and geo-bags are being placed along the shoreline of the reclaimed area under the second phase of Hulhumale’ Development Project.
HDC’s Managing Director Mohamed Simon said “they are undertaking numerous projects under the second phase, and of which the shoreline protection project is nearing completion. “
Half the project is financed by the Saudi Fund for Development.
Hulhumale’, developed as an extension of Male’ City, is the Government’s most ambitious land reclamation and urban development project. It is an artificial island reclaimed within the lagoon of Hulhule’ Island to accommodate the growing population in the central region of the country.
