President Dr Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives has travelled to Qatar on an official visit to offer condolences following the death of the country's former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The president departed on Monday morning to pay his respects to Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and members of the royal family after the passing of the former Emir, on Sunday. Qatar's former emir, Sheikh Hamad, a sweeping moderniser and the architect of modern Qatar, died at the age of 74.
Officials said President Muizzu would join other foreign dignitaries expected to arrive in Doha to express their sympathies and take part in the period of mourning for the late former emir.
