Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has held discussions with officials from Gan Regional Hospital and health centres in Laamu Atoll on further improving health services provided in the atoll.
According the Health Ministry officials, the minister’s visit to Laamu Atoll was aimed at identifying the challenges faced in the delivery of healthcare in the atoll.
During his trip, which concluded Wednesday, Minister Nazim visited Gan Regional Hospital and met with the management and staff there. During the meeting, the minister discussed ways in which the hospital could further improve its services, and shared the government’s plans to further develop the country’s health system.
The 52-bed Gan Regional Hospital provides services to residents of islands in Laamu and Thaa atolls.
During the visit, Minister Nazim also launched Gan Regional Hospital healthcare volunteer programme. The programme is aimed at providing a platform for licensed healthcare providers to volunteer their services to residents of Laamu and Thaa atolls.
He also visited health centres in Fonadhoo, Isdhoo, Maaenboodhoo and Mundoo. He also opened the newly developed health centre building in Dhanbidhoo.
The minister was accompanied on the visit to Laamu Atoll by State Ministers for Health, Dr Aishath Rameela and Dr Abdullah Waheed, and other senior officials of the Ministry.
