FM calls for promoting education in way that shows path to peace

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Dr Asim has said that “there is a responsibility on every nation to promote education and enlightenment in a way that shows the path to peace” and highlighted the need for finding creative and urgent solutions for the challenges facing the Islamic Ummah.

He made the remarks in his address to the 43rd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC that began in Uzbekistan Tuesday afternoon. In his address, the Minister emphasised on how Islam has always been a religion of tolerance and peace which promotes scientific learning and innovation.

Dr Asim also highlighted the importance of gender equality in education and the achievements Maldives has made in this regard.

He further called on the Muslims to stand united “to enjoy the glory of the true value of Islam”. Minister also stated that “Maldives will always be steadfast in support of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause”.

In concluding his address, the Minister stressed the importance of the Muslim world to promote the values of Islam in order to reign to the age of enlightenment where Islam stressed the importance of respect to learning, forbade destruction and cultivated respect, discipline and tolerance towards other religions.
