NDMC spends over MVR10.5m to deal with water shortages

National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) on Sunday revealed that the Government spent over MVR10.5 million to supply water to islands which faced shortages of drinking water during the dry season.

Senior Programme Officer at NDMC Faroosha Ali Naseer said a total of 104 islands reported acute shortages of drinking water this year.

She said drinking water was supplied to 88 islands during the first five months of this year.

She noted that the number of islands which reported water shortages had been on the rise.

NDMC said more work needed to be done at a local level to address the issue.
