Anticipating a customary surge in travel during the forthcoming school holidays, the national airline, Maldivian, will operate more than 2,000 domestic flights, representing a 17 per cent operational expansion over its standard schedule.
Hassan Sharih Adam, the senior manager for marketing and communications of Maldivian, outlined the strategy on the PSM News programme noting the carrier had prepared in advance. Tickets are currently available for flights possessing the capacity to transport over a hundred thousand passengers.
"More than 1,700 flights from our standard schedule have now been mounted," Sharih remarked. "Furthermore, guided by passenger demand and forecasting, we have elected to introduce over 325 additional flights. This represents a 17 per cent capacity expansion when compared to our regularly scheduled trips."
Sharih continued, "For every six flights operated, one will function as a supplementary service. Our forecast for the school holiday period projects the transportation of more than 110,000 passengers. We are fully prepared to accommodate over 91,700 passengers on our scheduled journeys, alongside more than 18,200 passengers on these supplementary flights."
The airline successfully executed a high volume of operations during the recent Eid observance, operating a total of more than 1,200 flights. Within that holiday framework, 1,014 flights followed the normal schedule, while 213 were supplementary journeys. One out of every five Eid flights was a supplementary service, transporting more than 65,000 passengers.
