New digital marketplace will empower Maldivian creators, Arts Minister says

The launch of the digital marketplace 'Creatoll' has established a new avenue for income generation within the Maldivian creative sector, Heena Waleed, the Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, said in an interview with PSM News following the platform's formal unveiling.

Developed by the Visit Maldives Corporation, Creatoll functions as a national digital marketplace dedicated exclusively to local visual and cultural content. The corporation reported that the platform allows creators to establish verified profiles, upload photographs and videos, independently determine pricing, and generate revenue while retaining full ownership rights over their work.

Minister Heena characterised the initiative as a significant development that enables the nation's youth to showcase their talents and distribute their work globally. The system is designed to expand the international promotional reach of the Maldives.

"This is emerging as a highly significant platform for creators, including documentary producers, photographers, filmmakers, and diverse content creators operating across various disciplines of this art," Minister Heena said. "Alongside this, the content uploaded to the platform is effectively becoming commercialised material that can be sold. Consequently, an opportunity to generate income is being facilitated through this initiative for all individuals working within the creative sector."

The Visit Maldives Corporation stated the marketplace extends beyond a digital storefront, describing it as an instrument for advancing the nation's broader creative economy and projecting authentic Maldivian narratives to a global audience.
