Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer, who is a member of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) governing council, has hailed as a huge success the Civil Court ruling that handed over control of the party to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, he said with the court ruling, gridlock within the party has been released, and that it will now be able to function properly and concentrate on its political activities.
“The ruling is a huge success for the future of the party and all its members,” Zameer said.
He said “the party sought a court injunction on resolving the internal disputes as a last resort, and added the party can now begin focusing its work towards the imminent Local Council Elections slated for January.”
Speaking to the media, PPM Parliamentary Group leader – Villimalé MP Ahmed Nihan Hussein Manik criticised President Gayoom claiming that his actions had recently been in violation of the party charter.
He further criticised how President Gayoom constituted the party advisory committee saying it was not a decision President Gayoom could make.
He also said President Gayoom did not have the authority to remove the leader of the party’s Youth Wing, and the decision was made in violation of the party charter.
Members of PPM governing council and Parliamentary Group also rejected President Gayoom’s decision to remove Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla from the post of Deputy Leader.
