Maldives, AIIB discuss infrastructure investment

The Maldives has held talks with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on investing in the country.

According to the Economic Development Ministry, senior officials of AIIB are currently holding talks with leaders of member countries. The delegation attending the talks with Maldives is headed by Vice President and Chief Investment Officer Dr. D. J. Pandian.

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said the talks were focused on investment opportunities in the Maldives and areas in which the country needs assistance. Dr. Pandian expressed AIIB's interest in investing in environment-related ventures and projects related to the wellbeing of the people, Saeed said, and the bank would give priority to the Maldives as it is a founding member of the organisation.

The AIIB, established in December last year, supports infrastructure development and regional connectivity in Asia.
