Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital performs successful gynaecological surgery

Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in Thinadhoo City has carried out its first-ever gynaecological surgery.

The surgery was conducted as part of a medical camp jointly organised by the Ministry of Health, Family and Social Affairs and the hospital. A team of 10 specialist doctors participated in the camp.

According to the hospital, the procedure involved removing a cyst from the left ovary and a fibroma from the fallopian tube.

The surgery was led by Dr Ubaidh Abdullah, with support from Dr Aminath Nusra, Dr Jumailath Begum, Dr Assad Mohamed, Dr Mohamed Ameen Hamid, Dr Mohamed Hamza, and Dr Mahmood Sayyid Ahmed Mohamed Saud.

Hospital officials described the achievement as a significant step forward in expanding healthcare services.

The procedure was a laparoscopic gynaecological surgery, which uses small incisions, a camera, and specialised instruments. Laparoscopic surgery is described as less invasive, less painful, and allows faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery. It is commonly used to treat conditions such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, and endometriosis.
