HDC urges flat owners not to use common space for personal use

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has urged owners of social housing flats in Hulhumale’ to clear public spaces and common areas of flat complexes within two months.

The company said some flat owners, especially those owning ground floor units, are using common areas without authorisation.

“Some of those owning ground floor units are building walls and planting trees in areas in front of the flat complexes, and are using such spaces for the storage of personal property,” it said.

According to regulations, empty spaces on the ground floors of social housing flats are common areas, and cannot be used for private purposes.

HDC said it has been receiving complaints about the unauthorised use of common areas of the building, adding that such acts interferes with the rights of other flat owners to use common areas for their intended purposes.

HDC said it will initiate the process of removing property in common areas immediately after the given deadline.
