A sea cucumber cultivation programme commenced in Dhambidhoo and Kalaidhoo Islands of Laamu Atoll on Sunday under the Government’s mariculture enterprise project.
The project was officially inaugurated by Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee.
The five-year “Mariculture Enterprise Development Project” is undertaken by the Fisheries Ministry in association with the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
The programme, carried out in Dhambidhoo and Kalaidhoo in Laamu Atoll, seeks to further develop the fishery sector and increase job opportunities.
According to the ministry, interested parties will be provided cages and baby sea cucumbers on loan, and relevant expertise and training.
The opportunity will be provided to ten parties under the project, the ministry said.
