President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that political fear that existed under previous governments no longer exists today.
Speaking on PSM’s “Nation Chat”, the President said political imprisonment, which he said was common in the past, has ended, and people are now free to participate in politics. He said he aims to create an environment where there is political stability, adding that there have been no political prisoners under his administration to date.
The President further said his government will not obstruct political activities, but such activities must be conducted within the framework of the Constitution and Islamic principles. He emphasised that everyone has freedom of expression, but it comes with limits that apply equally to all citizens.
Noting that senior politicians have a responsibility to promote national stability, the President described the role of a responsible opposition as holding the government accountable while also supporting it when it benefits the country. He claimed there is currently no responsible opposition party and urged politicians to prioritise national interest over revenge to strengthen democracy.
