Islamic Affairs Ministry on Saturday announced that 95,000 copies of Mus’haf Maldif would be printed within the next one-and-half months.
The Mus’haf Maldif Project is carried out by the Islamic Ministry as part of its effort to provide each Maldivian with a copy of the Quran.
Deputy Islamic Minister Mohamed Mustafa Ibrahim told PSM News that the initial plan was to print 50,000 copies under the first phase, under the multi-phased project.
He however said, the first phase would now see the printing of over 95,000 copies.
He said that “printing work under the first phase has been contracted to Bahrain Society, and the work expected to be completed within the next 45 days”
According to the Ministry, it would draw up policies on distributing the copies when the copies are brought in.
A copy of the first edition of the Quran published under the Mus’haf Maldif Project was earlier presented to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
The cover and page layouts of the Mus’haf Maldif are based on the stone carvings of the Malé Friday Mosque.
The Mus’haf Maldif Project is carried out with the assistance from state-owned companies, NGOs, and private parties.
The Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) of Jeddah, also provided assistance to the project.
