Public Service Media (PSM)’s news and current affairs channel, PSM News, has held its annual awards ceremony to mark the organisation’s ninth anniversary, recognising staff members for excellence across a range of categories.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Heena Waleed, who served as chief guest. Also in attendance were Managing Director of Public Service Media, Ahmed Shakeeb, Chairperson Aminath Namza, and Executive Director of News and Current Affairs Hussain Ameen Naseer.
Addressing the ceremony, Ahmed Shakeeb noted that while the PSM newsroom has been in operation for nine years, it builds on a legacy spanning 48 years. He said the milestone reflects the strong teamwork and collaboration across departments within the organisation.
He added that as PSM News approaches its 10th anniversary next year, efforts are underway to further develop talent within the media sector.
A number of awards were presented during the ceremony to recognise outstanding contributions by staff. The Staff of the Year and Best News Editor awards were both presented to Senior Editor Hafeeza Abdul-Sattar.
The Best News Presenter award was received by Senior Editor Ahmed Rilwan, while the Best Journalist award was presented to Moosa Mathloob. Saaid Ahmed received awards for both Best Sports Journalist and Attendance.
In the technical and production categories, the Best Video Editor award went to Shuhaan, while the Best Cameraman award was presented to Shaayad Mohamed Didi. The Best Photographer award was given to Jalwaan Jameel, and the Best On-Air Operator award was presented to Hussain Ibrahim.
The Best News Producer award was received by Fathimath Shiyaza. Ahmed Shafiu received multiple accolades, including Best Programme Producer, Best Documentary, and Best Programme.
The Best On-Camera Report award was presented to Mariyam Wafa, while the Best Secretary award was given to Aishath Neeza. The Best Social Media Content Creator award was presented to Ahmed Zooshan.
A special recognition was also awarded to Shaayad Mohamed Didi for over 20 years of service at PSM. He continues to serve as a cameraman at PSM News.
