Kudagiri to host events for 21st Asia Media Summit

Public Service Media is finalising preparations to host the 21st Asia Media Summit from 11-14 May at the Villa Nautica Maldives Resort, with select events slated for the picnic island of Kudagiri.

Operating under the theme ‘Maldives 2.0: From Tradition to Tech’, the gathering aims to highlight the nation’s intersection of technological advancement and environmental consciousness. Organised annually by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development, the summit expects 200 delegates from 35 nations to discuss the future trajectory of the global media landscape.

"While the summit is scheduled to take place from the 11th to the 14th, the final day will be dedicated to a special excursion event,” Aishath Liva Ziyad, a PSM business development executive, stated. The excursion, organised in partnership with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), will feature cultural exhibitions showcasing the natural splendour of the Maldives and a coral planting exercise at a dive wreck near Kudagiri.

"Strategic planning is currently underway to construct an underwater terminal situated between the two submerged aircraft,” Ahmed Shamil, the HDC’s corporate social responsibility project manager, explained.

The inaugural phase involves submerging 50 structural frames in a collaborative endeavour involving neighbouring resorts, Visit Maldives Corporatoin, and the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation. "Following the successful placement of these 50 frames," Shamil noted, "a subsequent second phase will be initiated."
