President appeals to strengthen unity and fraternity

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Sunday appealed to learn from the historic journey of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and strengthen bonds of unity and fraternity among Maldivians.

He made the statement in his address on the occasion of the Hijri New Year.

The President said that “the Hijri New Year symbolizes the historic journey of the Prophet from the Holy City of Mecca to Medina and that the migration teaches the virtues of unity, solidarity, sacrifice and fraternity.”

The dawn of the Hijri New Year was most opportune towards resolving to strengthen bonds of unity and fraternity, he said.

In this regard, the President encouraged the prioritization of ‎national interests in all endeavours, and underscored the importance of larger collaboration with the administration’s developmental efforts and in advancing social harmony, and peace.

President Yameen further extended greetings and good wishes to the people of the Maldives, leaders of the Islamic world and heads of the international Islamic community.
