Maldives Immigration has announced the formal integration of three additional passport-related services into its digital IMUGA portal, marking the latest expansion of a state-wide initiative to modernise essential civic functions through online migration.
The IMUGA portal, established in 2020, has evolved into the central digital gateway for the delivery of contemporary immigration services. The platform has been updated to include newly migrated functionalities that allow citizens to request alterations to passport collection points, apply for official copies of passports, and retrieve comprehensive records of previously issued documents, the agency said.
The transition represents a significant shift in administrative protocol. Historically, citizens seeking to amend a designated passport collection location were required to submit a formal physical letter. Under the newly implemented digital framework, this requirement has been replaced by a streamlined submission process located within the portal’s dedicated Maldivian passport section, according to official statements.
Further refinements have been made to the procurement of official passport copies, a procedure that formerly necessitated direct email correspondence with the agency. Immigration officials confirmed that these applications will now be managed through a centralised application module. Additionally, the agency noted that the process for acquiring historical passport data has been substantially simplified, permitting citizens to request this sensitive information directly through the secure online interface.
The ongoing development of the IMUGA platform remains a cornerstone of the agency's strategy to maximise public convenience and provide a seamlessly integrated service model. Beyond the latest passport management capabilities, the portal continues to serve as the primary infrastructure for the processing of a broad spectrum of visa applications.
