Disability card can be used to verify condition under gov’t housing scheme

Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has said applicants for the government’s housing programmes may submit a disability card issued by the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) to verify their condition.

Under the government’s “Housing for All” policy, people with disabilities can now apply under a separate category in the “Family Housing” programme. Applications opened on 1 April, with the deadline set for 30 April.

A separate housing category for persons with disabilities was previously announced, initially requiring only a single tick on the application form. The programme was later revised in February to ease the eligibility criteria. Applicants must have lived in the Greater Male’ area for at least five consecutive years to qualify for housing. Additional eligibility rules include consideration of financial situation, disability status, and recent treatment in the Greater Male’ area.
