A man sought by Maldives Police Service in connection with the stabbing death of Jailam Ahmed Shakir has surrendered, Police said on Monday.
Police said the suspect Mohamed Humaid went to the Maldives High Commission in Colombo on Saturday to turn himself in after over 18 months on the run.
Police earlier sought Interpol assistance to track him down.
The suspect has now been transferred to Male’ where the Criminal Court has remanded him to 15-day custody, Police said. Meanwhile, trials of three others charged with Jailam’s murder are now underway.
Those who are facing trial are Naseeb Saeed, Ismail Aneeg and Ali Irufan.
Ismail Aneeg is charged with first-degree murder using a sharp object, while Naseeb Saeed and Ali Irufan are charged with being accessories to the murder.
