The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group – CMAG said Friday that all sides in Maldives must compromise and be flexible on strengthening political processes.
Ministers from the CMAG made the statement in New York on Friday as part of its regular discussions affecting the 53 member states.
In its statement, CMAG affirmed it unwavering commitment to support the government and people of Maldives in advancing the values and principles in the Commonwealth Charter.
The group welcomed efforts from the UN to help the process and called for a 'timebound' dialogue to achieve agreement on institutional reforms, as well as ensuring an environment for 'credible and inclusive' presidential elections in 2018.
CMAG Ministers also said all sides had to compromise, participate fully without preconditions and show flexibility around strengthening the country's political processes.
