Maldives, Saint Kitts & Nevis establish diplomatic relations

The Maldives and Saint Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday established diplomatic relations.

The joint communiqué establishing relations between the two countries were signed Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim and Foreign Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Mark Brantley.

The signing ceremony was held at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations in New York on Wednesday morning.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Asim highlighted that the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries marks a historic opening for cooperation connecting the peoples of the two countries in all areas of mutual interest.

Minister from Saint Kitts and Nevis spoke of the importance of coordinating their issues of mutual concern as relates to the agenda of the United Nations.

Saint Kitts and Nevis is a small island state located in the Caribbean, with the land mass constituting of two mountainous islands. The population is approximately fifty five thousand seven hundred and twelve and has a federal parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy.
