Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed Asim on Monday departed to New York to attend the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Minister Asim is the Head of the Maldives Delegation for this year’s UNGA.
Global issues such as climate change, disaster risk reduction, sustainable development, renewable sources of energy, gender equality, violence against women, rights of the child, crime prevention and criminal justice are some of the major themes on this years agenda, that will be addressed in the upcoming meetings of the UNGA.
Foreign Minister Asim will speak at UNGA on September 24, and will deliver a statement addressing key areas of development in the Maldives.
He will be accompanied by Foreign Secretary Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN Mr. Ahmed Sareer, and other senior officials of the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the UN, New York.
