President conveys Chinese new year greetings

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended Chinese New Year greetings to Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, and to the people of China.

Chinese New Year marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new lunar cycle, with each year designated by a symbolic title rooted in Chinese tradition. This year is observed as the ‘Year of the Fire Horse’.

In a message shared on social media, President Muizzu noted that the Year of the Fire Horse reflects China’s continued success and development over the years. He expressed gratitude for the symbolic significance of the year and conveyed his wishes for prosperity and progress for the Chinese people.

The President further emphasised the spirit of cooperation and friendship between the Maldives and China, expressing hope for strengthened bilateral ties that deliver mutual benefit to both nations.

The Maldives and China share longstanding diplomatic relations. China was the first country to sign a Free Trade Agreement with the Maldives. During President Muizzu’s inaugural state visit to China, both sides signed multiple agreements across key sectors, elevating relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
