Bodies of two inmates sent to India for autopsy amid ongoing probe

The bodies of two local inmates who died while serving their sentences earlier this month have been sent to India for post-mortem examinations, Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed.

The deceased have been identified as 53-year-old Ibrahim Suhail and 45-year-old Hassan Niyaz, both of whom passed away on 2 February 2 under separate medical circumstances.

Suhail, who had been hospitalised at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for over a week due to a severe respiratory infection, succumbed to pneumonia after his condition rapidly deteriorated.

Niyaz, on the other hand, experienced a sudden medical emergency and was rushed to Hulhumale’ Hospital where he died while receivening emergency treatment.

Police have launched investigations into both cases.
