President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that health insurance services have been established for 385 athletes and sports officials from 18 sports associations from today onwards.
The president noted this on a post on social media, adding that this was highly anticipated by the sports community for years on end.
He assured that this would ease treatment for injuries obtained during competitions and trainings both in the Maldives and abroad.
Facilitating the establishment of health insurance for athletes is a key pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdullah Rafiu stated that players changing their squads shortly after joining has caused difficulties in providing insurance coverage previously, but he stated that this issue has been resolved as of late.
For instance, discussions are being held with companies and sports associations to create a standard amount for insurance as opposed to an individualised scheme for athletes, Minister Rafiu detailed.
