Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has inaugurated the National Action Plan on Disability Inclusion.
During the ceremony, the Vice President delivered remarks shedding light on the Islamic teachings regarding the treatment of persons with disabilities, noting that cultivating these values within our society in accordance with the Sunnah is a matter to which President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attaches great importance. He further stated that empowering persons with disabilities, alongside safeguarding their rights, has been closely overseen by the President from the outset.
In line with this objective, employment opportunities have been secured for 356 people with disabilities, alongside the implementation of additional programmes aimed at equipping them with vital professional skills for the workplace.
The Vice President highlighted that the National Action Plan on Disability Inclusion represents one of the Government's most significant initiatives, marking a strong, historic step forward in ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities.
He conveyed the President's gratitude, alongside his own, to all stakeholders who contributed to developing and implementing the action plan. The Vice President also thanked the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for its contribution, acknowledging the invaluable work the agency has consistently rendered over the years in nation-building.
