“Rahafaiy” exhibition opens, showcasing traditional delicacies tailored by senior citizens

“Rahafaiy” exhibition has opened, showcasing authentic Maldivian food and beverages tailored by senior ctizens spanning generations.

The exhibition was commenced by Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim and the Minister of Family and Social Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham.

Displaying traditional Maldivian cuisine, the exhibition focuses on the particular delicacies used to prepare for Ramadan.

Speaking to PSM News after opening the exhibition, Minister of Family and Social Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham detailed the aims of this initiative, stating that this is good platform to engage the residents of the senioir citzens center.

“There are two to three reasons for this. For one, doing this provides senior citizens and their families with a joyful environment. Along with this, young children and the youth can be provided useful information with the help of the Heritage Ministry.” She said.

Minister Adam Naseer Ibrahim stated that this exhibition gives senior citizens the opportunity to showcase their talents. He added that delicacies are an important part of tradition and heritage.

“As this work is being carried out at home, children learn the words related to cooking and these works. It brings new life to the vocabulary once used. Therefore, this is educational. And it creates a tradition of collaboration.” The Minister stated.

Speaking to PSM News, exhibitors expressed their contentment with to the opportunity to showcase Maldivian tastes to the public. “This is a very good thing. I am very happy that exhibitions like this are held. I am particularly happy because Maldivian tastes can be experienced from one place.” An exhibitor said.

A total of 77 exhibitors took part in this exhibition, with over 2,000 items of several varieties being present. A special feast was held post-opening with 33 varieties of items of Maldivian cuisine prepared for senior citizens.

The exhibition is open to the public and will be held until February 7th. It will be open every day except for Friday, from 1400 to 1800 hrs, and 2000 to 2200 hrs. On Fridays, the opening hours are from 1600 to 1800 hrs and 2000 hrs to 2200 hrs.
