Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim has today met with Minister for Asia and the Pacific at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Mr Alok Sharma.
During the meeting Minister Asim congratulated Minister Sharma on his recent Ministerial appointment at the FCO and expressed hope that UK Maldives ties would continue to flourish during his tenure in office. The Minister also briefed Minister Sharma on recent developments in the Maldives including the extensive efforts made by the government to strengthen governance and expedite democratic consolidation in the country.
The Ministers also discussed existing Maldives-UK relations and focused on possible areas for future collaboration to further strengthen bilateral ties. In particular, the Ministers discussed increasing the quality and quantity of economic and trade links between Britain and the Maldives, and considered a number of mutually beneficial possibilities to increase business opportunities for investors.Minister Asim was joined at the meeting by H.E. Mr Ahmed Shiaan, High Commissioner of Maldives to the United Kingdom and Ms Shiuneen Rasheed, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting with Mr Sharma features as part of number of engagements due to take place during Minister Asim’s official visit to the United Kingdom.
