Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has said that the national futsal team’s victory in the inaugural SAFF Futsal Championship will serve as a strong encouragement to young athletes across the Maldives.
The Vice President made the remarks in a post on social media congratulating the national team following their 3–1 victory over Bhutan in the ongoing tournament in Bangkok.
Congratulating the team, the Vice President said he hopes the historic victory will motivate Maldivian youth and play an important role in helping them pursue their dreams and achieve success in sports.
The Maldives national futsal team secured the championship title with the win over Bhutan in their fifth match of the tournament. The team remains unbeaten, recording a 100 percent win rate despite having trained without what the Vice President described as the most adequate facilities.
With one match remaining in the competition, the Maldives have already clinched the SAFF Futsal Championship title. The national team is scheduled to return to the Maldives on the 27th of this month.
