Final preparations were underway on Sunday in Fonadhoo Island, Laamu Atoll, for the Public Service Media’s Eid Ufaa festival.
A special function was held Sunday at MNDF Iskandar Airbase to welcome the first group of artists who arrived in the atoll to perform at the festival, and were greeted by Fonadhoo Island Council and PSM team.
The first group of performers included the first Maldivian Idol Laisha Junaid, Voodoo Band, and dance groups. Maldivian Idol stars Mohamed Ishan and Abdulla Sodiq, in addition to Harubee boduberu group are also expected to perform at the festival. Performers said that they expect colourful Eid celebrations in the island this year.
The stage shows will be held on September 12, 13 and 14. Managing Director of PSM Ibrahim Khaleel also arrived in Fonadhoo Sunday to oversee the final preparations.
On Monday, the Eid prayer congregation would be led in Fonadhoo by Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, which would be followed by a special event to convey Eid greetings and morning tea.
The special events held in Fonadhoo to mark Eid this year would include cultural and traditional activities, stage shows and special performances and a 17-kilometer bicycle rally, organised by PSM, Fonadhoo Council and Bike Maldives.
It would also feature special performances by Indian Idol star Abhijeet Sawant. The celebrations will officially kick off tonight.
