Maldives' Foreign Minister travels to UAE for Abu Dhabi sustainability week

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, has departed for the United Arab Emirates to participate in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026, taking place in Abu Dhabi from 13 to 14 January.

The Maldives’ participation in the high-level forum reflects the Government’s enduring commitment to sustainability and climate leadership, particularly as a small island developing state on the frontline of climate change. Through active engagement in multilateral platforms such as this, the Maldives continues to contribute to international dialogue on renewable energy, climate resilience, innovation and strengthened global cooperation in pursuit of sustainable development goals.

During the visit, Foreign Minister Dr Khaleel is expected to engage with international counterparts and stakeholders, reinforcing the Maldives’ advocacy for ambitious climate action and collaborative solutions that address the disproportionate impacts of climate change on vulnerable nations.

Dr Khaleel is accompanied by Additional Secretary Khadeeja Najeeha and Assistant Director Fathimath Reena of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is widely recognised as one of the world’s foremost platforms for advancing the global sustainability agenda. The annual gathering convenes heads of state, senior ministers, policymakers, industry leaders and subject-matter experts to deliberate on some of the most pressing challenges of our time, including climate action, the global energy transition, technological innovation and pathways towards inclusive and sustainable growth.
