Malé north side road development project advances

Significant infrastructure upgrades along a key route in Male’ City are currently progressing, with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) reporting the completion of 38 meters of sheet piling work along the local market area’.

MTCC, which is undertaking development of a critical 250-metre stretch from the local market area to the North Harbour, has also announced the completion power cables installation alongside the road. The practical work on the road development project commenced on the 9th of December.

MTCC also said that the practical works on the development of a sea channel has also begun, and that by the end of this week tie-rods and anchor blocks will be installed. 270 meters of water supply lines have also been installed, it said.

According to MTCC, the development aims to improve pedestrian access, ease traffic congestion, address persistent flooding caused by drainage problems and enhance accessibility for residents, cargo vehicles and vessels.

The construction covers a 250-metre section from the Local Market area to the North Harbour, forming part of a wider 1,088-metre stretch running from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the North Harbour. Phase one, covering 140 metres, has been completed, while work on phase two is ongoing.

MTCC said it expects the second phase to be completed and the road opened to the public ahead of Ramadan.
