Aeroflot became the latest carrier to commence operations from terminal 1 in Velana International Airport (VIA).
A special ceremony was held at the airport to mark Aeroflot’s transition to the new terminal. The chief guest of this ceremony was the Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto, Hussain Fahmy.
Aeroflot General Manager for the Maldives, Evgeny Ratushnyy, Consul General of the Russian Federation in the Maldives, Aleksei Idamkin, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) CEO and MD Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed and MACL Exco Members were also in attendance.
During the event, the airline’s check-in counters were officially opened, with gifts presented to the departing passengers. Meanwhile, the passengers arriving on the inaugural Aeroflot flight to operate from terminal 1 were welcomed with traditional cultural performances.
Aeroflot, the flag carrier and largest airline of Russia, marks the 39th airline to transition to the new terminal. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) aims to transition all airlines to the new terminal by the end of 2025.
