Emirates, the 37th airline to commence operations from Terminal 1

One of the United Arab Emirates’ national airlines, Emirates, has become the 37th airline to commence operations at the new passenger terminal, Terminal 1, at Velana International Airport.

A special ceremony was held to mark the airline’s transition to the new terminal. The event was attended by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim, who served as the chief guest.

Also present at the ceremony were Emirates’ Country Manager for the Maldives and Sri Lanka, Jaber Mohamed, senior officials from Emirates, and managers and officials from Maldives Airports Company Limited.

During the event, Emirates’ check-in counters at the new terminal were officially opened, and gifts were presented to 310 departing passengers. In addition, 298 passengers arriving in the Maldives on the first Emirates flight to operate from the new terminal were welcomed with traditional cultural performances.

Emirates is the fourth airline from the United Arab Emirates to begin operations from Terminal 1. The airline has been serving the Maldives since 27 May 1987.
